About the Coin.
Succeeding the Franklin half dollar, the Kennedy half dollar is a coin of the United States first minted in 1964, the year following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. It features the face of President John F. Kennedy on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse. The obverse was designed by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse was designed by Frank Gasparro.
First year this coin was minted in 1964, it was made of 90% silver, 10% copper. Following year in 1965 and until 1970 the silver content reduced to 40% due to the silver shortage those years. Starting in the year 1992 to the present, US MINT has been making JFK HALF DOLLAR in 90% silver again, but ONLY AS PROOF COIN for collectors, not for general circulation.
